Advertisements discourage us from being different individuals and makeus become what they want us to be and look the same. Do you agree ordisagree?

Advertisements discourage us from being different individuals and make usbecome what they want us to be and look the same. Do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, the overwhelming influence of advertisements on media has madetoo many controversial social issues. Some people argue that advertisements makethe audience have the similar look by driving them to buy products of the samebrand. Personally, I fundamentally agree with this assertion, and my reasonswill be explored as below.

Admittedly, the literal intention of advertisements is to sharpen theconcept of individualism. For the purpose of distinguishing brand names, slogansand testimonials in advertisement are always full of very personalized words, including "new", "innovation", "uniqueness", "revolution", "the best", "theonly", "the first". It is clear that core values of these words bring people amotivation to change, and a desire to try something distinctive. Consequently, the gap between people can be broadened, because any individual is stimulated byadvertisements to express their personalities by buy different items, instead offollowing common tastes.

However, when considering practical effects of advertisements on thesociety, I strongly believe they play a role of depersonalizing the audience, and the first reason is that commercials are the key tool for big companies tomonopolize the market. One hand, many big companies invest billions of dollarsannually in making fascinating and prepossessing advertisements to attract thepublic, which consistently maintains the loyalty of patrons, and cultivate goodimpressions of potential customers on their brands. On the other hand, smallcompanies have too limited financial ability to afford these costly publicitycampaigns, so that their names and influences continue to fade and lose consumergroups. That is to say, advertisements, an expensive privilege only for rich andbig companies, help these companies exclusively occupy the market, as well asreducing the diversity of brands. In this situation, people definitely look thesame, because they have no other options but buy the same-brand food, clothesand devices produced by a dominating company.

Another reason supporting this assertion lies on the fact that exposure toadvertisements standardizes thoughts and tastes among audiences, especially interms of their appearance. A typical example comes from fashion, cosmetic andshampoo commercials which highlight the close-up of images of certain model orcelebrity. This is a strong brainwash by implying that images of these actorsare common standards of human beauty, and then triggering massive publicimitation shows round by round. In too many cases, large groups of hypnotizedpeople, regardless of ages, careers and races, blindly follow and chaseso-called iconic figures in an advertisement, mainly through buying and usingthe same lipstick and perfume, wearing same clothes, watch, ornaments and bag, even copying the same hair style.

In conclusion, I believe the main social influence of advertisements is tomake people have the similar images apparently. Although slogans ofadvertisements tend to individualize the audience, the truth is thatadvertisements not only let big companies rule the market solely, but alsomanipulate the public’s minds to buy the same things.

Extravagant Spending on College Campus

According to a survey, in recent years the monthly expenditure of a collegestudent hasbeen on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept ofthrift in their mind. Theytake it for granted that they spend money from theirparents before they enter into the extravagant spending isprimarily caused by the following factors.

First of all, nowadays most of the students are the only children of theirfamilies. They arethe apple in their family’s eyes and naturally get more careand pocket money. In addition, withthe improvement of living standards, parentscan afford higher expenditure of their over, some students like topursue fashion and trends, which tend to need more lly, campus love isalso a possible factor causing extravagant spending.

The most immediate benefit of extracurricular activities is to theparticipants’ studies. 范文:

This cartoon displays a very soothing scene. An old lady bought some stufffrom a convenience store, and just at the moment when she was about to leave, the store keeper ran out to her because she had paid an extra two yuan. Thoughthat is not a big amount of money, I believe the old lady must be greatlyimpressed by the keeper’s honesty.

It is without doubt that the cartoon aims at addressing a serious problemprevailing in today’s society, that is, the lack honesty in the field ofbusiness. For instance, many businessmen are so obsessed with making profit thatthey simply forget that they are supposed to serve the people with best productsand services. Therefore, there emerge fake products, cheating services andunfulfilled promises. In contrast, the kind-hearted keeper of this drawingpractices honesty in every detail of her work. Her attitude gives customer thesense that her product and service are of first-class quality, which wouldguarantee her more customersand credit.

The store keeper’s practice is exactly what we should advocate among allbusinesses. That is because, honesty not only renders clients temporarysatisfaction, but can also build long-term customer trust. The latter is one ofthe key factors for market expansion and business success.
