A CAT caught a Cock, and pondered how he might find a reasonable excuse for eating him. He accused him of being a nuisance to men by crowing in the night time and not permitting them to sleep.
The Cock defended himself by saying that he did this for the benefit of men, that they might rise in time for their labors.
The Cat replied,"Although you abound in specious apologies, I shall not remain supperless." and he made a meal of him.
一只猫抓了一只公鸡，在想怎样才能找到一个合理的借口来吃掉它。于是猫指责公鸡夜里打鸣影响人们休息。
公鸡辩解说，他这样做是为了造福人类，为了能够让人们及时起床劳作。
猫回答说:“虽然你找到了理由为自己辩护，但是我不会让自己晚上空着肚子的。” 于是猫就把鸡给吃了。
